I like to think of Saturdays in a variety of ways; sometimes it is adventure day, sometimes it is art day, and sometimes it is beauty day. The perfect Saturday is when I can combine all three!

Today is allowing us the “Zen-ness” of relaxation and surrounding ourselves in the cocoon of intoxicating fragrance, creams, and lotions that can awaken the senses and soothe the mind. Every goddess deserves a weekly ritual such as this.

It is always a wonderful experience allowing yourself to be pampered at a sensuous location, being treated and cared for, but if belief in time and money restrict you – you can always create a magical moment from the sanctuary of your own home. You can set aside anywhere from an hour to a full day, depending on the levels of luxury in which you have decided to treat yourself.

You can create some organic spa essentials from your pantry and gather items from around the house. I think as a goddess you would know to choose basic items such as scented candles and comforting, relaxing music, bath towels and assorted loofahs, sponges and essential oils or fragrances to allow yourself to completely embrace the experience.

Today’s homemade creation is a salt body scrub. You only need three ingredients.

  • 2 cups of coarse sea salt
  • 1 cup olive oil (you can also use grapeseed or almond oil)
  • 12-16 drops of essential oil (your favorite) You can substitute fragrance oil instead – it just won’t have the same healing properties – but the scent will be there.
  • If you don’t have essential oils you can always add small drops of vanilla extract! (I cannot speak on the shelf life – since I use it immediately!)

Pour the salt in an airtight preserving jar with a hinged lid. (yes, you can use a glass bowl with a plastic lid)

Separately add the essential oils drop by drop to the olive oil until desired scent is reached. Then add to the salt, mix and then add a little more olive oil to the top. Seal the lid and shake well!

Rub on your skin to exfoliate and rinse off. Remember the oil base will make the tub/shower slippery! Skin will be silky smooth. Follow with soaking in a scented bath and cold cucumber slices and cold iced wash cloths over your eyes.
