Living a Spiritual Life

Sometimes on our quest for growth, we feel the need to change our lives. Because we are growing spiritually, we feel that if our career doesn’t focus on “spirituality,” we are not living up to our potential. So, there are seekers who quit their job and live by the seat of their pants waiting for spirit to move them, while others may feel the need to open a spiritual place, be it a bookstore, gift store or center, or go into alternative spiritual and healing professions, such as Reiki, energy healings, hypnotherapy, tarot and psychic readings. So they can fulfill their path and their destiny.
Having a Spiritual Career doesn’t make us spiritual. For many doing it doesn’t even make them happier. They find they are in constant turmoil and chaos trying to make the process work. Sometimes it is a struggle trying to make enough money to survive and keep the bills paid, or it may be a struggle of trying to find why it is not fulfilling to them. They fight in vain to make this work, in the end going against the very thing they were trying to accomplish, to grow spiritually and be happy with their life and what they are doing.
We each have an important role to play in this life. Some will be herald throughout history, while other forgotten. The role we play can only truly be rewarded and acknowledged through our own hearts and through our own actions, not by the approval or recognition of others. Spiritual growth is personal, it is connecting to the Divine within. It is living every aspect of our life in love and gratitude. If we truly follow our hearts, our soul’s desire it will bring us light, happiness and joy. Having a “Spiritual Career” doesn’t make us spiritual. And if you are not happy in doing it, you are just hanging an empty shingle.
A friend of mine recently realized she was not happy doing what she had been doing for the last several years that her heart yearned to go back to doing what she loved doing in the past, being a flight attendant.
Her spirit, energy, wealth and the spiritual business she was trying to make successful were sinking fast. She had felt her prayers to spirit were going unanswered. In exhaustion and frustration, she through her hands in the air, and decided to close the business and take a vacation.
After a few days she realized, what she wanted, not the spiritual business, but to be back in the air. She went on an interview was hired on the spot and had no problem selling the business.
She found that spirit was answering her prayers, just not how she expected them to be answered. Owning a spiritual-based business didn’t make her life more complete, but took away from her spiritual essence. She found once she really listened to her heart and began doing what she loved happiness was immediate, and once again she felt spiritually connected. She is still being of service to humanity, however, this time both are being fed in spiritual completeness instead of instead of bits and pieces.
